Harpswell officials preview detailed maps showing future flood risk for homeowners

Margaret McIntyre opened the presentation on the town'funded future flood risk study and described a Community Resiliency Partnership grant through MOCA that funded the mapping effort. "The grant we got was to map, future flood risks in Harpswell," she said, and staff emphasized the product is intended as a planning tool for residents and property owners.
Scott Hayward of Stantec walked the board through the study design and the online viewer that will let users click along shoreline transects to see wave height, water level, wave setup and a 2% run‑up value for nine map scenarios. Hayward said the maps pair three return periods (10‑, 50‑ and 100‑year storms) with three sea level rise elevations (0, 4 and 8 feet) so a homeowner can compare, for example, a 10‑year storm at 4 feet of sea level rise to the present‑day 100‑year FEMA scenario. Town staff said the online ArcGIS viewer and a story map will be posted on the town website for public use.
