River Ridge discusses multi-year storm-surge resilience plan; board to designate liaisons

Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, outlined a multi-year action plan to increase resilience to storm surge and climate impacts, including pursuing partnerships and creating an advisory/review panel. "He discussed an action plan being developed to build resilience regarding storms and climate change, including the creation of an advisory/review panel," Long told the board, and asked the CDD to designate a Board and Staff or engineering representative to help coordinate efforts with County and State partners.
Long cited a hypothetical topographic model for a Hurricane Milton scenario showing a 10'–12' storm surge could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded. Board consensus designated Mr. Long and newly appointed Supervisor Keith Merrill to assist the initiative, and the board authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to provide assistance as needed. Counsel noted that addressing coastal surge often requires coordination across municipalities, counties and state agencies and may take many years and contingent funding.
