Council proclaims 'Chelsea Aveiro Day' for local softball achievements

Pittsburgh City Council presented a proclamation recognizing Chelsea Aveiro for her achievements in recreational and competitive softball and for community service and school involvement.
A council member read Chelsea’s playing history — including selection to all-star teams, a Brookline all-star mayor's-cup championship at PNC Park, a transition to competitive fast-pitch teams, and a season in which she recorded 28 hits, 24 RBIs and 7 home runs — and moved to approve the proclamation declaring July 28, 2026, to be Chelsea Aveiro Day in Pittsburgh. The motion passed and Chelsea addressed the council, thanking her parents and teammates and saying she hopes to play at the collegiate level.
Chelsea’s mother Miriam described Chelsea as neurodivergent and praised her resilience and achievements. Council members and family posed for a photograph following the proclamation; the council also read three other proclamations into the record later in the meeting.
The recognition was ceremonial and does not create any city program or budgetary commitment.
