Council Member Russell Smith moved to adopt the ordinance, and Council Member Scott Symond seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. The moratorium applies citywide for the duration specified in the ordinance and will give staff and the planning commission time to formulate formal land-use rules.
The moratorium was discussed earlier in the meeting in the context of rising interest from outside industrial projects; the Planning Commission had already signaled that data centers are not an appropriate land use within city limits and will prepare an ordinance prohibiting them if circumstances do not change.
