Selectboard clears Trails Committee to buy Strawberry Hill signs, asks volunteer list and waiver for chainsaw work

Rudi Ruddell appeared to discuss a Class IV Road Improvement application for the Orchard Legal Trail, asking to cut trees and to have a ditch cleaned; he said the ditch cleanout "would take 20 minutes with a rake."
The Selectboard debated whether volunteers or the road crew should perform the work and raised safety concerns about chainsaw use. The board asked the Trails Committee to provide a vetted list of volunteers who have chainsaw experience and indicated a waiver would be needed if volunteers are used. The Trails Committee was also authorized to spend from its account to buy Strawberry Hill signs and posts.
Board members agreed to have the road crew smooth a few roadside spots to allow parking for 2–3 cars at a nearby turnout. Selectboard member John O’Brien made a motion to allow the Trails Committee to use its funds to buy the signs; Gary Mullen seconded and the motion passed (all aye).
