"It rescued 32 crew members from SS Pendleton in 1952," Delegate Julia Green said, describing the museum's centerpiece: the historic Coast Guard 36-500 motor lifeboat. Green told the committee the resolution and letter would be attached to grant applications and used in fundraising appeals to bolster the nonprofit's campaign.
The motion to recommend Resolution 2026-09 passed without discussion and received unanimous 'Yes' votes from the attending delegates at the roll call. The chair said the committee will forward the resolution and letter to the full assembly for consideration at its Aug. 5 meeting.
Supporters said the museum would both preserve a notable piece of maritime and rescue history and help attract donations and grant funding for the Orleans Historical Society. Committee discussion was brief; no members raised objections during the committee's consideration.
The committee's recommendation is advisory to the full assembly; final approval and any subsequent funding decisions will be made by the assembly when the item is docketed on Aug. 5.
