Loami trustees split; resolution to appoint Loami Celebration chair fails

The Village of Loami board voted on Resolution 2025-07, which would have appointed the chairman of the Loami Celebration committee, but the measure failed after a 3–0–3 roll call on Sept. 11, 2025.
Trustee Courtney Schmideler moved to approve the resolution and Trustee Christina Stark seconded. Roll call produced votes of Cohen — Abstain; Lawson — Aye; Mann — Abstain; Schmideler — Aye; Stark — Aye. The clerk recorded the tally as Ayes 3, Nays 0, Abstain 3; the motion did not pass. The resolution’s failure means the committee will lack an appointed chair for upcoming events unless the board reintroduces the measure or members select a chair internally.
Members of the Loami Celebration committee had attended the meeting. Jill Withers, who identified herself as a lifelong rural Loami resident, and Shannon Crawford expressed support for Erin Cohen as committee president. Trustee Christina Stark warned that without the resolution the committee “may miss doing the pancake & sausage fundraiser which raises a significant amount for the committee.”
The board did not take further action on the committee’s governance at the meeting and did not set a timeline for reconsidering the appointment.
