Commissioner urges stronger trail, bike-ped provisions in Fayston Town Plan

Michael Duell, a member of the Fayston Planning Commission, presented his analysis of Chapter 7 (Transportation) of the town’s 2020 Plan and urged a stronger focus on nonmotorized travel.
"Michael feels that the plan talks about the motor vehicles/roads a lot," Duell said, arguing the chapter is "weak on alternative modes of transportation." He recommended restoring a section that would commit the town to working with neighboring towns, volunteers and nonprofit groups to develop a regional network of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and he asked that the next Plan include a map showing public trails.
Duell’s presentation was given as part of a continuation of commission member analyses of the 2020 Town Plan. He framed his suggestions as adjustments to better reflect ongoing local efforts: bringing back regional coordination language and volunteer collaboration, and adding concrete map-based guidance so residents can more easily locate existing trail resources.
The commission did not take immediate action on revisions during the presentation; the remarks were entered for consideration as the commission prepares updates to the Plan for future review.
