Ron Graves raised concerns about how the Cemetery Commission funds can be spent. Town Treasurer Sarah Stavraky reported that preliminary research suggests the larger cemetery account may only be used to buy land, with perpetual-care interest available for grounds maintenance: “it really looks like the larger account they have can only be used to buy land,” she said.
Sarah plans additional research to determine when the account started and whether there are further restrictions. The Selectboard agreed to wait for a firm determination so the board can budget appropriately and ensure cemeteries are cared for in line with legal restrictions and donor intent.
