Price County holds $15M for stalled Bug Tussel tower project; radio system replacement estimated at $4M

At the Feb. 17 meeting, Board Chair Brian Ernst updated supervisors on the Bug Tussel tower project, saying the company has made "no physical progress after roughly 1.5 years" and that the county’s communications with the firm have been inconsistent because of multiple staff changes. Ernst reported the county still holds about $15 million allocated for the project and that only minimal funds have been drawn.
Chair Ernst told the board the county’s radio communication system is at end-of-life and likely must be replaced within two years, with an estimated cost of roughly $4 million. Without Bug Tussel towers the county may need to finance its own towers or pay ongoing leasing costs for tower space; the board said it will invite Bug Tussel to present and will not approve additional spending until planning, clarity and a timeline are provided.
The report was presented during the Committee of the Whole and recorded as part of the chair’s updates; no formal vote was taken at this meeting on the tower project funding.
