Supervisor Fazel, who read the proclamation text to the board, said in part that “emergency management professionals serve a critical role in preparing for, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating the impacts of disasters.” Chair thanked county emergency-management staff by name for their recent work and singled out July response efforts, saying, “emergency management did a great job in July on RAGBRAI, on, all the flooding that went on in Story County, working with FEMA and working with, you know, the state and getting proclamations.”
The proclamation encourages residents to develop family emergency plans and assemble supply kits, and the board invited county emergency-management personnel forward for a photo following the vote. No further action was taken; the proclamation is a recognition and public-education step rather than a budgetary or regulatory change.
