Representative Harris presented House Bill 2032, the Higher Education Purchasing Act, saying the bill would let private higher-education institutions access the same purchasing power as public institutions across the state. Supporters argued the change would benefit both the state and private institutions by creating common procurement efficiencies.
"I am bringing forth the higher education purchasing act which is, House Bill 2,032," Representative Harris told the committee. A representative of TAKUWA expressed support during the hearing; Harris said TAKUWA was "excited and over thrilled about this legislation." The committee called the question and the clerk reported six ayes and zero nays.
With that vote, House Bill 2032 will proceed to the full education committee for further consideration.
