The Stamford Select Board voted to approve installation of a replacement heating and cooling unit in the town office after members were told the existing heater/cooler had failed and was not reliably heating the building. The contractor provided a quote of about $6,500 for a wall-sleeve heat-pump unit including disposal and wiring; board members discussed whether to pursue a two-head mini-split that could cover both the Listers’ area and the office.
John Dunn said he wanted to ask the contractor whether a split unit could be offered for a similar price so both rooms would be covered. "If he could do it with a split unit around the same price, I feel it's worth asking that," Dunn said. After debate about potential electrician and carpentry costs, the board moved and seconded an amended motion (allowing up to an additional $1,000 contingency for wiring/installation as needed) and approved the purchase on a voice vote: "All in favor," Chair Nancy Grishica said; the board answered, "Yes." The installer will be asked whether the two-head option is available at no material increase in cost and staff will call the contractor to proceed if acceptable.
