He described the operational rationale — streamlined classroom efficiency, simpler replacement cycles, and predictable budgeting — and said there is no additional funding request; devices come from regular replacement cycles and existing levies.
Student representative Tesla and other trustees raised concerns about impacts on specialized programs (digital art, CAD) and whether students will responsibly care for take-home devices for multiple years. "I believe that there are students who are using things such as Adobe... and CAD programs," Tesla said, urging a path for exceptions or accommodations. District staff said cases will be provided for drop protection, devices will be Wi‑Fi only, teachers can request white-list access for specific sites, and administrators will retain discretion to handle exceptions and implementation details.
The board voted to approve the 1:1 agreement and the protection plan; staff will coordinate communications with families and guidance counselors, and monitor implementation and equity issues.
