Board hears FY26 budget recap: small variance, transfers into safety and interlocal reserves
Summary
Finance staff reported the district finished FY26 close to projections (elementary at roughly $0 variance; high school with a $1.53M surplus) and described transfers — including $240,000 and $81,000 moved into building-reserve safety funds and about $1.5M shifted into the interlocal contingency and transportation accounts.

Chris, presenting the year-end numbers for fiscal 2026, said the elementary general-fund budget was $25.3 million and effectively finished with no net deficit after some internal fund shifts; the high-school general fund had a $1.53 million surplus on a $29.7 million budget. "The combined miss to our projections between the two funds was $237,000 on a $55,000,000 combined budget," he said, framing the result as a positive outcome after multiyear system rebuilds and process improvements.
Chris described transfers: $240,000 from elementary adult-education surplus and $81,000 from high-school adult ed moved into building-reserve safety funds (usable for safety projects such as SROs), and about $1.5 million from the high-school surplus swept to the interlocal (contingency, transportation, curriculum categories). He warned that the district's largest contracted transportation carrier has a contract expiring and that planning for potential nonrenewal is underway. Board members discussed reserve optics, commitments versus internal bookkeeping, and the need for ongoing finance-committee follow-up before targeted spending decisions.
