Subcommittee advances THEC cleanup bill to update financial-aid language

The House Higher Education Subcommittee on Feb. 18 voted unanimously to send House Bill 2095 to the full Education Committee. Chairman White described the bill as a multi-decade cleanup intended to remove antiquated language and to modernize code around Tennessee student-assistant awards and transfer pathways.
Lou Hanuman of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission testified that the measure is largely technical. "There are no substantive changes to eligibility," Hanuman said, and he explained THEC supports a narrowed executive-session allowance so that personnel or contracts may be discussed behind closed doors while final decisions are made publicly. The committee voted 5–0 to report the bill to full Education.
