Selectboard members were told Dec. 8 that the Waitsfield fire station has several infrastructure problems that need professional attention, including heating, plumbing and electrical work. Chief Jared Young told the board the building cannot be allowed to freeze because the tanker stores water, and said he has obtained a quote for electrical-panel work but has not yet solicited bids for heating replacement.
Firefighters described the lack of a shower and separate decontamination space to remove post-fire contaminants and the absence of an exhaust system for operating vehicles inside the bay. Tripp Johnson noted an inspection report produced several years ago and said a list of items to address had been provided to the previous Town Administrator. Selectboard members recommended analyzing the cost-effectiveness of repairing the existing building versus constructing a new station.
