City manager reports modest sales tax gains, audits to be presented in April

City Manager Mike Vaughan gave a financial update at the March 12 Cleveland City Council meeting, reporting that sales tax receipts for the current month were $217,558 — about $4,000 higher than the prior month and roughly $25,000 above the same month last year. Year‑to‑date sales tax collections are about 5.1% higher than the prior year.
Use tax receipts for the month totaled $17,830, which Vaughan said was down about $24,000 from the prior month (that month had been unusually high) and down roughly $8,000 from the prior year; year‑to‑date use tax remains about 7.7% above last year. Utility billing for the month was reported at $538,046, an increase of about $140,000 from the prior period.
Vaughan told the council that audits for FY2022–2023 and FY2023–2024 are expected at the April meeting; completing those audits would put the city within one year of being fully current. He said he wants auditors to "find it" and be transparent and noted that bank accounts look sound.
Council members did not take action on the financial reports beyond receiving the updates and setting the April meeting for the pending audits.
