Wyoming Area CTC student wins SkillsUSA state title, places 5th nationally

Superintendent Dr. Pollard recognized several student accomplishments during the meeting, including William Van Alken, a Wyoming Area SD student who participated in the Westside Career and Technology Center's electrical construction program. Van Alken placed first in the 2026 state SkillsUSA telecommunications competition and then placed fifth at the national competition in Georgia.
Dr. Pollard noted Van Alken also earned industry certifications (including OSHA-30) and is moving into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local after graduation. The board and audience gave a round of applause; Dr. Pollard framed the achievement as an example of the opportunities available through the district’s CTC programs.
