Ogdensburg introduces ordinance banning parking on Bridge Street; council amends to both sides

Council members moved July 13 to introduce Ordinance 04-2026, which amends Chapter 7 (Traffic) of the Borough code to prohibit parking on Bridge Street between Bridge Street and Plant Street. The ordinance was amended during discussion to apply to both sides of the street (with an exclusion for the existing parking lot), and a public hearing was scheduled for July 27, 2026.
Councilman DeMeo said the language needs to change to cover both sides of Bridge Street, and Ms. Hough confirmed clerical edits (crossing out the 'northwest' designation and replacing it with 'both sides') while preserving the location limits. Chief Sanfilippo recalled earlier discussion that suggested both sides were under consideration. The council voted to introduce the ordinance with the amended language and set the public hearing date.
The ordinance amends traffic rules for a short downtown segment and will return at the July 27 hearing for public comment and a possible final vote.
