Lincoln County canvasses governor's runoff, schedules post-election audit for Aug. 18

County auditor reported 9,308 ballots cast in the July 28 Republican runoff (33.95% turnout). The county will hold a 5% post-election audit on Aug. 18 in two precincts selected at random; the Secretary of State indicated counties may not be reimbursed for the cost.
Lincoln County officials on July 30 completed the official canvass of the July 28 Republican gubernatorial runoff and scheduled a post-election audit.
Auditor Sherry read county totals to the commission, reporting "Lincoln County had a total of 27,416 active registered Republican voters eligible to participate in the election. A total of 9,308 ballots were cast, resulted in overall voter turnout of 33.95%." She also said the county found 10 blank ballots (five containing write-ins that state law disallows) and two unstamped ballots deemed invalid. The auditor told the board the county will conduct a post-election audit on Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Commission Chambers and that state guidance indicates counties may not receive reimbursement for audit costs.
The commission conducted a precinct-by-precinct review and then moved to approve the abstract of results; the board voted to accept and execute the abstract. Election staff conducted a random bingo-ball drawing to select two precincts (Precincts 29/27 and 13/14) for the audit, which state law requires to cover 5% of precincts in the county for this contest.
