Council approves $75,000 aviation grant application; discusses airport lease and drone range

The Deer Park City Council voted unanimously to approve a Sustainable Aviation Grant application to the Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Division in the amount of $75,000. Darold Schultz reviewed the grant application and the council approved submitting it (motion by Jason Upchurch; seconded by Ellen Standen; vote 7-0).
Council also approved Resolution 2026-005, reviewed by Schultz, to confirm grant-match availability for WSDOT aviation funding. A Deer Park Airport lease agreement with Las Madronas Aviation was included in the consent agenda and approved as part of the consent items. Schultz told the council he has been working on establishing a drone range at the airport and noted that a separate FAA airspace approval will be required before such a range can operate.
