Danny Barrett, an attorney with the firm identified in the record as Purdue Brandon, briefed the court on a year of collections work after the office turned over delinquent property taxes for collection. Barrett said the firm reduced the July 2024 turnover of just over $2 million by about $1.3 million in the first 12 months — a 68% reduction — and reported an 86% reduction on older turnovers that had been worked for two years.
"We reduced that by 1,300,000, in this 1st 12 months," Barrett told the court, explaining that the figures cited exclude penalties and interest and reflect base tax amounts. Barrett and a colleague, attorney Abby Dye, answered procedural questions about upcoming seizure sales and said the collection fee is paid by the delinquent taxpayer, not the county. Barrett provided an annualized estimate for the county’s transports and other calculations when asked about broader fiscal impacts.
Court members praised county staff and the tax office for cooperation during the turnover process and asked that the firm coordinate with county attorneys on any outstanding legal or contract language. Barrett said the firm would make contact information for its legal department available for county counsel to review the proposed procedures.
Next steps: Court members said they would follow up with the county clerk and sheriff’s office about logistics for seizure sales and would place additional details on a future agenda if legal review or contract amendments are needed.
