Council accepts Department of Natural Resources annexation request, begins review

The Davenport City Council accepted a formal annexation request from the Department of Natural Resources on April 8, initiating the first step of the annexation process. City Administrator Steve Goemmel told the council DNR abandoned a previous annexation attempt because there were no registered voters on the parcels; the new request uses the direct-petition method.
Council member Lance Strite moved to accept the request with the condition the annexation be reviewed for compliance with the most current Comprehensive Plan in both the Land Use and Housing Elements, and that the annexation include assumption of all or part of any existing city indebtedness as applicable. Chris Stein seconded the motion and it carried.
