NH DOT says engine brakes cannot be banned on state roads; town to pursue alternate signage requests

Croteau said DOT considers engine brakes emergency mechanisms and will not allow a local prohibition on state roads; he told the board the town could post restrictions on town-owned roads but that the specific complaints were on state roads, making enforcement by the town unlikely.
Town Manager Jon Frederick also reported that Sam Greene, speaking on behalf of Jaffrey VIS, asked the town to purchase two speed-limit signs for the Center and near Gilmore Pond Road. Frederick said both DPW and the police department have no issues with the request but that installing signs on state roads would require state permission. The board expressed general support for pursuing the necessary approvals.
