The member reported there is a donor willing to pay for legal help and asked permission to let the attorney know the town may call on him; the board expressed support for having counsel on standby.
Members said they preferred to have legal representation available even if the town ultimately does not need it. "Better to have them and not need them," the Chair said, and the board agreed to allow staff to notify the attorney of the town’s interest so the lawyer can reserve availability if the PUC matter proceeds.
The board requested an update at the October meeting and asked staff to report back on next steps and any formal retainer terms before money is spent.
