At the Sept. 23 meeting staff said the town had a used grader available with roughly 9,000 hours and noted new grader prices near $400,000. Staff also said the manufacturer offered a 10-year lease package quoted at roughly $10,000 per year, but cautioned members to compare lifecycle costs including parts and hours on the used unit.
Members asked how many hours are put on the grader annually and whether parts for older models would be obtainable; staff answered that used units often come with parts availability questions. One committee member said a $75,000 budget line for a used grader would be a reasonable working figure in the board’s long-range scenarios, while staff acknowledged vendors listed some used graders for less ($50,000) but with much higher hours.
The board asked staff to include the used-grader options and lease math in the equipment spreadsheet and to bring vendor details (hours, parts history, warranty/lease terms) back to the next equipment-review meeting.
