Chair Sean Petty and staff described constituent concerns about traffic flow near Costco and whether roundabout designs would allow fire-truck access. Petty said the intersection is operating at a poor level of service and that the town is pursuing federal funds the town will partially match: "I'm not gonna get back $7,000,000 in federal money. We're on the hook for 20%." Commissioners discussed asking nearby property owners and businesses to share the local match, including possibly splitting the 20% cost with developers or property owners.
Staff said the town will continue to participate in INDOT meetings and emphasized the need for more detailed design review before finalizing plans. Commissioners asked staff to stay engaged with the state and to return with additional details about design, safety for emergency response, and any cost-sharing commitments from private parties.
