Selectboard hears MERC grant status and statewide legislative issues

Chris Morrow presented a MERC Grant and legislative update to the Weston Selectboard, noting that grant funds remain available for energy-efficiency projects and that reporting on expenditures is due soon. Shawna Batogowski was designated to coordinate the grant reporting.
Morrow also briefed the board on several state-level developments: proposed changes to the homestead tax and exemptions, state health-care fiscal challenges, flood-resilience legislation, and systemic pressures on Vermont’s education system. Denis Benson revisited a prior request that the town explore legislation allowing appointment of a non-resident interim Town Clerk/Treasurer if a vacancy arises between Town Meetings.
