Council creates Parks & Recreation Department and updates contracting authority

The council voted to adopt Ordinance 26-06 to further amend the municipal code and establish the Parks and Recreation Department. Town attorney/manager Michael Griffin explained the changes: "This ordinance will just further amend the current code you've already established, the parks and recreation department...It also updates the current language to comport with changes that were made by the legislature and state law with regard to obligations over 500,000." He said the amendment clarifies when parks must bring certain obligations to the council for final approval.
Council moved and seconded the ordinance on second reading; roll-call votes were recorded in favor and the ordinance carried. Staff will notify appointing bodies to fill the board seat when needed and will implement updated procurement procedures for large park obligations.
