"My name is Maria Velasco. I'm a faculty at USU Extension Home and Community," she said, then outlined work that increased 4‑H outreach and youth career‑exploration opportunities; she told the council more than half of recent 4‑H enrollment owes to extension outreach in the county. Velasco noted the program has won state and regional recognition and credited letters of support from the city in several successful grant applications.
Velasco described a newly completed medical‑interpreting certificate that graduated 13 people from Moab and nearby counties and said many graduates already work locally in schools, clinics and the hospital. She also highlighted community‑health efforts: "We have around 400 bilingual CHWs in the entire state willing to review our curriculum to volunteer, etcetera," she said, and described a state‑funded pilot to train youth as health ambassadors. Velasco offered to circulate a virtual report with further details and welcomed future presentations if the council wanted deeper briefings on agriculture, natural‑resources or 4‑H work.
