On Aug. 14 the council approved several administrative and organizational items in a sequence of motions.
Staff described a one‑year lease (effective Sept. 1, 2024) between the City and the Hampton Redevelopment and Housing Authority for approximately 4,992 square feet of office space in the Rupert L. Sargent building. The initial annual rent for the term beginning Sept. 1 was listed as $15,255 with automatic annual increases of 3 percent; council approved the lease resolution.
Council also adopted a resolution designating the restoration of Fort Wool as a legislative priority; staff said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is building a seabird relocation island due in 2027, after which the Commonwealth previously committed to restoration. The council voted to reestablish a towing advisory board to review police‑requested towing ordinances and approved multiple appointments to boards and commissions (FADA, CPAG, Fort Monroe Authority reappointments).
Council appointed Courtney R. Sidnor as the city's full‑time permanent city attorney with a planned start date of Sept. 16; the motion to appoint and approve contract terms passed by council vote.
