Hampton council approves consent agenda amending FY budgets, accepts multiple grants

The Hampton City Council on Aug. 14 approved a consent agenda that amended the fiscal year 2024–25 budget to accept and appropriate several grants and to transfer capital project funds for transportation and facility improvements.
According to the clerk’s summary read at the meeting, the consent agenda included grants supporting homelessness prevention services; services for infants and toddlers with disabilities; programs that support the sheriff’s reentry efforts and medication‑assisted treatment for incarcerated individuals; victim and witness assistance services; dispatch training and staff development for emergency medical dispatch; funding for fire‑division needs; measures to support secure and open elections; and a multimodal safety action plan that will prioritize pedestrian facilities and re‑time signals on 21 arterial roads. The consent package also authorized capital transfers for a transportation initiative and appropriated funds for the War Memorial Stadium locker room, and accepted a grant from the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice for court service unit programs.
Councilman Bowman moved approval, another councilmember seconded, and the motion passed on a voice vote. The clerk noted the consent agenda included 13 listed items and several budget adjustments to accommodate the grants and projects.
