Hampton honors 69 dual-enrollment students who earned associate degrees

Hampton City Council held a ceremonial session to recognize 69 Hampton City Schools students who earned associate degrees while still in high school. "Tonight, 69 students have shown just how far the idea has come," Brian Marchese said, describing the ACE Academy partnership with Virginia Peninsula Community College and the students' commitment to balancing school, activities and college coursework. Marchese said the program began with two students in 2018 and has expanded to serve dozens today.
Mayor James A. Green and other city leaders praised the students for advancing academically and noted the financial benefit to families. The mayor cited a total tuition-savings figure for families of roughly $730,000 (the transcript lists both $730,470 and $730,457). Officials encouraged graduates to pursue further study, careers or service and invited photo opportunities following the ceremony.
