Board hears facilities update: temporary brick realignment; door replacements estimated at $90,000+

Staff reported a temporary fix to rebalance bricks at the Ped Mall entrance and said permanent replacement of two outer and two inner automatic doors will cost a little over $90,000; a CIP request will be submitted during next year’s budget process.
Library staff informed the board that bricks in front of the Ped Mall entrance will be realigned as a temporary remedy while a longer-term solution is pursued. Staff (S4) explained the bricks had settled and there was insufficient material under the bricks for stability, which caused movement that was pushing the door upward and wearing metal finishes. "They're moving and pushing the door up... so we're gonna do that temporary fix and then do a long term fix," S4 said.
On a long-term basis, staff reported the building has two outer and two inner automatic doors that need replacement; staff provided an estimate of "a little over $90,000 to replace all 4," and said they will submit a capital-improvement (CIP) request to the city as part of next year’s budgeting process. Trustees asked whether the city would cover the cost and staff indicated the city typically absorbs such public-area repairs and the library will seek city funding.
