Library board approves trustees’ annual report and signs off on final strategic-plan draft

The Iowa Public Library Board of Trustees voted to approve the trustees’ annual report during its July 23 meeting and reviewed the library’s final three-year strategic plan for fiscal years 2024–2026. Trustee S8 moved to approve the trustees’ annual report; S5 seconded the motion and the board adopted it by voice vote.

Trustee S3 offered to perform line edits and circulate suggested language changes before the report goes to the city in August. Staff (S4) said the strategic plan primarily serves as an internal document for the library, and that a separate, fully packaged annual report — including financials and statistics — will be prepared for community distribution. "We try to bring it a little early so we can get those edits from you," S4 said, noting a more polished version will return to the board in August with the financials.

Board members praised the breadth of accomplishments captured in the materials. Several trustees asked that editorial changes be non-substantive; S3 characterized the proposed edits as stylistic and offered to share them by email to avoid a long in-meeting review. The board did not alter major goals in the strategic plan at this meeting and expects to finalize presentation materials and data at the next regular session.
