Highway staff updated the selectboard on winter operations, reporting limited local incidents but a constrained salt supply caused in part by state contract changes and high demand in southern states.
"Cargill... did not get the state contract," Staff member (Speaker 5) said, explaining that without the state purchase contract some suppliers redirected stock elsewhere. The town has roughly one load of salt remaining and will rely on sand and plowing; staff reported plans to retrofit a roller for the new grader with help from New Haven personnel.
Members thanked staff for keeping roads passable and discussed hiring and contracting timelines for slump and water repairs in spring.
