Gaylene Canoite, president of the Hampton NAACP branch, expressed concern about violence in Black-owned establishments and asked what measures and targeted supports the city offers to prevent violence and assist impacted businesses. "It is important to address the systemic inequities faced by black businesses and businesses in Hampton," she said. City management acknowledged the concern and committed to exploring small-business supports and a potential restaurant-focused assistance program.
