Hampton City Council voted to adopt ordinance 26-0118, a package of amendments to Chapter 35.1 of the city code governing site plans.
Chief Site Plan and Subdivision Agent Surdiab told the council the amendments formalize definitions for major and minor site plans, clarify when a site plan is required, create a digital submission option to reduce paper copy requirements and shorten review timelines to better align with state code and reduce review time from 60 to 40 days in some cases. "We are amending this section to align with the state code, clarify vague areas, define key terms and make the process clearer, faster and easier for the citizen to use," the presenter said.
Council had no public speakers signed up on the item and adopted the amendments by roll-call vote. Staff and the planning commission recommended approval, and staff said the changes are intended to reduce regulatory burden for applicants while improving transparency and interagency coordination.
