"My name is Libby Villegas and I am the teen services librarian," Libby told the board, introducing herself and her work since late February. She said she has been with Smith Public Library since January 2022 and moved into youth services after earning her Master of Library Science.
Libby described program metrics for the summer: "so far we've averaged 22 teens per program," she said, and reported "we've received 402 reading logs for teens and worked ... with 41 in person volunteers." She discussed toddler story time and book-club pathways that move children into teen programs. Libby said she is shaping teen volunteers into a "mini advisory board" — a low-commitment group that can give teens more voice in programming.
Board members asked about popular genres; Libby said fantasy, romance, graphic novels/manga and mystery/thrillers are prominent with local teens. She emphasized that there is "no right way to be a reader" and described volunteer mentorship and conflict-resolution work as part of her role.
