Public Works moves to replace retiring engineer technician, offers training overlap

County Administrator Jim Grafton told the committee that Engineer Technician Lisa Geiger plans to retire after 31 years of service. The county has advertised the position and received four applicants; staff interviewed one promising candidate and discussed expediting an offer. Geiger has offered to do side-by-side training depending on start date, and has produced a standard operating procedure to help with the handover.
Grafton said that if needed Hutchison Engineering can assist with inspections and that staff have discussed IDOT requirements for the position. The committee moved and approved proceeding with the hiring process by voice vote.
Committee members asked about inspection workload and sealcoat oversight for townships; staff said Hutchison can fill gaps during transition if necessary.
