The Governance, Health & Administration Committee approved the University of Illinois Extension levy agreement by voice vote after a motion by Drue Mielke and second by Johnnie Woods.
Emily Swihart, horticulture educator with the University of Illinois Extension, described the Gift Garden Program, a partnership linking community growers with local food pantries. Swihart said last year the program grew just over 64,000 pounds of produce. She also described an initiative called Healthy Urban Forests and noted a partnership with Constellation Energy on that effort. The minutes do not record additional funding or implementation details for the extension programs.
