Butler County approves right-of-way purchase tied to $2 million KDOT bridge award

Public Works Director Curtis Mader told the Board the County secured a $2,000,000 award from the Kansas Department of Transportation's Off-System Bridge Program for project 17N1-27-5 (OS 156) to replace the Walnut River bridge on SW 80th St. As part of the project, three right-of-way parcels are required; the Board considered and approved buying 0.423 acres from the Tamara L. Berndsen Revocable Living Trust for $5,683.01, based on comparable sales and county property values. Funding will come from Capital Projects line item 0043-041-6604-000.
Commissioner Jeff Masterson moved to approve the right-of-way purchase and Commissioner Kelly Herzet seconded. The motion carried 5-0. Staff said the county's new policy of fully designing bridge structures before grant applications has helped accelerate KDOT approvals and project delivery.
