Residents press board on transfer station controls and volunteer role after heavy trash period

Select board members said the town has rehired additional transfer station attendants and that a recent three-week surge in incoming trash required extra measures (a bulky bin) to manage the load. To discourage out-of-town dumping, the board plans to reinstate window stickers for town vehicles; the activation date will be posted online when determined.

A resident who conducted a voluntary survey at the transfer station reported high vehicle volumes and low recycling rates and offered to provide written statistics to the transfer station committee. The board asked the resident to submit the findings formally for committee review and said volunteers could help with sorting at the swap shop if logged with the Maine Municipal Association and provided protective equipment, but not with heavy machinery operations due to safety and liability.
