"It's basically a mix of uses of housing and commercial," staff said when explaining center types, and noted WFRC wants jurisdictions to think 30–50 years into the future. Councilors debated whether corridors such as Riverdale Road and Wall Avenue should be classified as retail‑only (blue) or remain mixed‑use (orange), with some urging the city to keep flexibility for housing and redevelopment while others argued that a retail designation could help prioritize regional investment.
Members also discussed a map toggle that shows current versus proposed/future classifications and said WFRC had modified some areas after planner comments. Several councilors asked staff to return suggested boundary adjustments to reflect existing commercial strips (for example near Costco and the Wall/40th corridor) and to submit unified comments to WFRC.
