Planner completes FEMA floodplain training; commission told he will be certified floodplain manager

Director Wilkes told the commission that planner Jordan Andrews had attended FEMA floodplain administration training and will move on to the certified floodplain manager course. "Jordan Andrews... has been gone all week to FEMA floodplain administration training... when he completes that course and then he'll go through the certified floodplain management course, he will be our certified floodplain manager," Wilkes said.
Chair Reis and other commissioners discussed the role of the planning department in tracking floodplain permit requirements and coordinating with state and federal agencies. Wilkes noted that, as zoning administrator, he can appoint a designee to perform certain functions and that the town is responsible for floodplain oversight within its jurisdiction.
Commissioners said they expect the planner to be involved in tracking permit requirements and coordinating with agencies such as the Department of Conservation and Recreation, DEQ and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where relevant.
