Marie Karpel, the city’s communications and marketing director, told the council the department returned from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers conference with multiple awards.
"We did come back with a 2nd place prize here for, what is the best civic engagement event around State of the City this year," Karpel said, describing last year’s State of the City format and outreach. She also said the team won first place in a category for creative campaigns made with minimal budgets.
Karpel noted the city’s State of the City replay is available at abileneinvestment.com and credited cross‑departmental support — from downtown coordinators and parks staff to police and fire — for the results. She told council the communications team tracked increased website traffic after the event and that promotional work, including new billboards and social media, will continue as the city measures downloads and engagement with a refreshed SeeClickFix app.
