Meadow Drive resident urges widening, warns of safety as nearby development boosts traffic

Clyde McMinn, who said he lives on 5700 Meadow Drive, told the board his street — built in the 1960s and lacking curb and gutter — has deteriorated into potholes and ruts that force vehicles close to yards and mailboxes. He said parts of the street measure as narrow as 17 feet, compared with 36 feet on nearby streets, and asked that the sides of the road be widened rather than installing curb and gutter.
"One part of the street was 20 feet wide. Another part of the street down a little further was 18 feet wide, and another part of the street was only 17 feet wide," McMinn said, describing inconsistent widths that make meeting another vehicle difficult. He said the neighborhood has many young families and that the arrival of new subdivisions and Wiley Elementary School will increase crossings and truck traffic, raising safety concerns.
McMinn said residents collected petitions and asked the board to consider widening the roadway as part of the evaluation process. The chair thanked him and the board asked staff to evaluate Meadow Drive along with the other petitioned streets.
