Committee leans toward site plan that faces Sarah's Way

Architects presented two slightly different site orientations that rotate the station to improve visibility from Sarah's Way. One architect summarized the difference: "So the entrance to the building is now diagonal to the intersection of Sarah's Way and Mass Avenue..." and later an architect concluded, "And I think this version, say, plan 2 is the better orientation for that." Members noted the rotated plan brings the entrance and apparatus bay into stronger view while tucking the patio and firefighter parking back from Mass Ave.
The committee also discussed pedestrian wayfinding and buffering for abutters: striping or a marked walkway from overflow parking, additional plantings around the retention pond, and shifting the footprint slightly for better tree preservation. Members asked the design team to explore small shifts north or west where feasible without triggering large additional excavation costs.
