Parks board approves resolution supporting Texas Parks and Wildlife's pursuit of a Kirby Lake site

Leslie Andrews described a multi-year request from Texas Parks and Wildlife to locate regional offices in Taylor County and asked the board to approve a resolution to support the effort. She said the preferred location evaluated by staff was Kirby Lake and that TPWD had asked for 3 to 5 acres near a water body.
"What is before you is a resolution authorizing the City of Abilene to enter into an agreement with Texas Parks and Wildlife to give them the ability for up to 6 years, which is really 2 legislative sessions to secure the funding," Andrews said. She added that once state funding is secured, the city would return to the Parks Board with a formal lease that would outline acreage, term and parking requirements.
The board opened public comment on the item and heard none. A motion to approve the resolution passed on an oral vote with the chair announcing the motion carried. Texas Parks and Wildlife staffer Michael Homer was identified in the presentation as needing to abstain from the conversation due to his employment, and Andrews asked that questions be directed to her rather than to Homer.
